Through flexibility, collaboration, and high-performance concrete, Thomas Concrete helped support the accelerated construction of DataBank's latest data center expansion.

As demand for cloud computing, artificial intelligence, and digital storage continues to grow, data centers have become some of the most schedule-driven projects in construction today. For owners and developers, speed to market is critical.

That was certainly true for DataBank 5 & 6, where Thomas Concrete partnered with Brasfield & Gorrie to help deliver 37,500 cubic yards of concrete to a project defined by aggressive schedules, complex coordination, and high-performance requirements.

Data centers require much tighter timelines than a traditional distribution building, making collaboration among partners essential.

Meeting an accelerated scedule

“The main thing that sets data center construction apart is the speed to market,” said John Slayton, Senior Project Manager at Brasfield & Gorrie. “Developers want their buildings up and running a lot quicker, so the quicker we can turn those around and get ahead on schedule, the better.”

Unlike many commercial projects, data centers require large concrete placements, tight construction sequencing, and structural systems designed to support significant equipment loads. Multiple pours often occurred each day, requiring careful planning and close communication between project partners.
