A Thomas Concrete employee for 19 years, Joey continues to inspire us with his driver dexterity and Team Thomas spirit, both of which he delivered unequivocally on the ready-mix obstacle course at the Gaylord Rockies Convention Center in Aurora, CO, and again as he accepted the championship trophy after securing the highest score against the best ready-mix drivers across the country.
A true professional with a great sense of humor
In true Joey fashion, he began his speech by questioning the sanity of anyone giving him a live mic, which garnered ripples of laughter throughout the audience. Joey followed this with heartfelt thanks to everyone involved in the event, including the volunteers, the 85 competing drivers, and his colleagues from Thomas Concrete. Joey explained to the crowd,
“At Thomas Concrete, we have a slogan that is on everything we see, and it’s called, ‘Team Thomas,’ and what that means is that whether you’re in management, mechanics, sales, drivers, no matter what your job title is, when we come to work every day, we’re a team. When you work together as a team, you get a job done safely, and you go home to your loved ones…that’s what we do at Thomas.”

Thomas Concrete has had strong representation at the annual event for several years, and 2022 was no exception. Bobby Bates from Atlanta, Tom Sawicki from Upstate, and Kurt Weaver from Myrtle Beach also competed in the event, giving excellent performances across the competition, including a first-place tie for Bobby in the general knowledge exam.
Before relinquishing the stage, Joey commanded the attention of the audience for one last minute to thank his girlfriend, Paige, for her loving support and to pay homage to the Rocky film classic with a triumphant finish, “Yo Adrian, we did it! Team Thomas, we did it!”
Congratulations Joey, Bobby, Kurt and Tom!
