The Kendeda Building for Innovative Sustainable Design, situated on Georgia Tech’s Atlanta campus, is a 4,366 square meter education and research center completed in autumn 2019. This state-of-the-art facility includes classrooms, labs, a conference room, an auditorium, office spaces, a rooftop honeybee apiary, and a blueberry orchard. As the 28th building to achieve full Living Building Challenge certification, it is designed to be the most environmentally advanced education and research building in the Southeast. The Kendeda Building is 80% more efficient than a comparable new, conventionally built higher education building in Atlanta. It operates as a net-positive energy facility, generating more electricity through onsite solar panels than it consumes each year.
